South Philadelphia Prevention Coalition (SPPC) will be keeping busy as the Summer winds down by doing some amazing things to really inspire our youth and families in the South Philadelphia community. The month of August will be especially busy!
On August 2nd, SPPC will be having a Clean-Up Day and working on developing an Urban Garden Cafe at 8th and Mercy Streets. This initiative is in partnership with Carmetta Dickerson of Town Watch Integrated Services, Officer Juan Delgado of the Philadelphia Police Department, and Reuben Jones of the City of Philadelphia. SPPC is also having work done on the garden by PowerCorp PHL. It’s going to be a fun and exciting time for the community to come out and aid in the beautification of South Philadelphia.
SPPC is also putting together a magnificent, engaging, and powerful youth Town Hall on August 16th at 6 p.m. at the Guerin Recreation Center at 16th and Jackson Streets. This will be a time for the youth to come out and share their knowledge and voices about what they believe can be done to help improve their communities, reduce the use of substances, and provide positive resources for their peers.
Finally, on August 22nd, SPPC will hold have their monthly meeting as they prepare for Back to School kick-off events at various schools in South Philadelphia. All are welcome to attend that and all other meetings so that together we will be able to make a positive impact!
